Anniversaire

It’s exactly a year since I posted my first offering on this blog; I’ve just poured myself a nice glass of something white and thought I would celebrate!

Thanks to everyone who has linked here, sent a message of support or posted a comment – your encouragement has been fantastic and inspiring, and I hope you will continue to join us through 2008 in what should be a year of change and better-luck-with-slugs-and-weather.

So to all the thousands of ‘The chickens have escaped’ visitors… Santé!

Tagging and apologies

OK, so while I was in my winter stupor I had an email from Val Grainger  saying that I’ve been tagged. As I am an Inept Blogger I have very little idea what any of this means, and couldn’t wake myself up long enough to work it out; so apologies to kind people who have tagged me in the past only to despair at my uselessness!

However, I will explore my self-satisfaction for just a second to give you five facts about myself which I’m sure you will find captivating!…

1. Yes, my mother did actually write SCARLET on my birth-certificate… no one knows why
2. I LOVE wine, and recently fell in love with a single malt whisky called LAPHROAIG (which I can never again afford to buy!)
3. I make my own soaps, cosmetics, bread, and anything else that looks do-able
4. I am a FANTASTIC cook
5. I am hopelessly shy

Bad girl

No news since December… I know, I should be sacked. No employer in the world would put up with such shoddy productivity!

So, why the silence? Well, do you have to ask… it was the middle of winter and cold… it was January. JANUARY! What’s the point?! I can’t think of a more useless time of year. There’s absolutely nothing to do, it gets dark so early that by the time you get up, eat a big cooked breakfast (you have to because it’s so cold) and light a fire… it’s dark again! And the house is like an ice box, freezing draughts blowing in through rotten window frames and badly fitting doors. It’s a wonder anyone can even drag themselves out of bed.

Now that February is here and the sun has been shining on us, I’ve been out in the garden again trying to get it organised for spring planting. The kids have also been helping out. They’re great; they’re like wwoofers only they eat less!

I’ve recently been perfecting the “dossier” for our association Projet Capucine, in French, so that we can try to put our plan into action this year by going round and talking to local government structures and other bodies who might be able to help us (financially, mostly!). If you know anyone who wants to give money or wwoof, you know which direction to point them in!!!
