All this work and no play has been incredibly dull for the family and very bad news for the garden, so I was very interested to read a news story about a job going at Wookey Hole in Somerset for a resident witch. I’m seriously thinking of jacking it all in, selling up and moving to the shires in the UK! I think after years of searching I may have found my perfect job…

I was tempted too but just think of all those tourists you’ll have to put up with

Well; if you take it literally….
coloured ribbons & strings were used in many ancient ceremonies & spells – so perhaps this actually IS a case, of ‘money for old rope’….?!

P.S. I fulfill the goat-&-cat criteria…..& I can cackle with the best of ‘em! £50k, please….
P.P.S. Deborah – if you’re a serious witch & those pesky tourists are truly annoying, at least you can blight their crops or turn ‘em into a frog or summat.

Late to the party, I fear – but I saw the ad also, and was tempted as I know and love the area. But: it’s p/t (the salary is pro rata); it would be wall-to-wall, er, little darlings; rents in the vicinity are sky high; winter in the Mendips can be very harsh (to say nothing of prolonged), and running an ultra-reliable car would be obligatory … so maybe not such a great idea after all!
I’ve enjoyed reading your blog, and love the title which just happened to ring a few nostalgic bells chez moi (my last home backed onto the premises of a bunch of escapologist Rhode island Reds!).
Greetings from Nice.
